Thin Line 3: Rest vs Avoidance

Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference.

You cancel the plan.
You turn off the phone.
You stay in bed a little longer.
And maybe you need it.

But maybe…
you’re hiding.

There’s a thin line between listening to your body
and silencing your life.

Between rest that restores you,
and rest that protects you
from what you’re afraid to face.

Real rest is active.
It’s intentional.
It’s a soft reset —
not a silent escape.

Avoidance wears the same clothes:
blankets, snacks, sleep, stillness.
But under the surface, it’s not peace — it’s pause pressed out of fear.

Rest says:

I need time to reconnect with myself.

Avoidance says:

I’ll deal with it later.

One heals.
The other hides.

It’s okay to blur the line sometimes.
We all do.
But if you find yourself tired all the time —
even after sleeping,
even after scrolling,
even after “unplugging” —
maybe you’re not resting.
Maybe you’re running while sitting still.

So ask:
Did this give me more of myself — or just a break from my life?

You don’t have to fight your way back.
Just take one small action
that moves you forward and lets you breathe.

This is the Cushy way.
Rest, not retreat.
Stillness with presence.
Not tuning out — but tuning back in.
