Thin Line 23: Self-Expression vs Oversharing

You want to be seen.
Heard.
Known.

So you speak your truth.
You share your story.
You open up — raw, honest, real.

That’s self-expression.

But sometimes, you feel the urge to say more.
To explain everything.
To bleed it out in hopes someone will hold it for you.

And now it’s not just sharing.
It’s spilling.

There’s a thin line.

Self-expression is rooted in clarity.
Oversharing is rooted in a need to be soothed.

Expression says:

Here’s what I’ve learned.
Oversharing says:
Here’s everything I haven’t healed yet — maybe you’ll understand.

Expression connects.
Oversharing confuses.
It can overwhelm.
Or push people away under the weight of your process.

Expression is intentional.
Oversharing is impulsive.

You say:

  • “I’m just being honest.”
  • “I need to get this out.”
  • “I’m done hiding.”

And maybe that’s true.

But ask:

  • Am I grounded in this — or still bleeding from it?
  • Am I sharing to connect — or to be rescued?
  • Am I giving truth — or handing over unprocessed pain?

Your voice matters.
But not everything sacred needs to be spoken right away.

This is the Cushy way.
Truth with timing.
Expression with integration.
Sharing what’s solid — not what’s still shaking.

Your vulnerability is not a performance.
It’s a bridge.
And you get to decide when it’s strong enough to carry someone else across.
