Thin Line 10: Presence vs Numbing Out

You’re sitting still.
Phone down.
Music off.
Everything’s quiet.

But your mind?
Gone.

Thinking ahead.
Replaying something.
Floating through timelines that don’t exist.

You’re here.
But not really.

There’s a thin line.

Presence is full.
Numbing is fog.

Presence feels.
Numbing floats.

Presence opens your eyes.
Numbing closes the part of you that notices.

It’s not always dramatic.

Sometimes numbing looks like self-care.
A show.
A snack.
A scroll.

But it’s not about the action — it’s about the intention behind it.

Are you choosing comfort —
or escaping feeling?

Presence says:

I’m in this moment, even if it’s uncomfortable.
Numbing says:
I’ll come back when it’s easier.

One roots you.
The other sedates you.

And here’s the thing —
we all numb sometimes.
It’s human.
It’s a reflex.
But it doesn’t bring you home.
It just delays the return.

Ask yourself:

  • Am I choosing this — or defaulting into it?
  • Am I avoiding discomfort — or embracing stillness?
  • Do I feel more me after this… or less?

This is the Cushy way.
Presence without pressure.
Silence that reconnects.
Stillness that restores.

You don’t have to force yourself to be “on.”
You just have to be here — even a little.

That’s enough.
